Terms of Use

These Terms govern your use of GhostedBy, including the public directory. You do not need an account to browse it, and browsing needs no agreement with us.

The Moderation Policy forms part of these Terms and explains how outcomes are counted, corrected and removed. Questions about these Terms can be sent to hello@ghostedby.xyz.

GhostedBy shows the share of reported outcomes that ended without a response, together with the sample behind it. Ratings reflect what candidates reported, and not every team at a company or its current practice.

One silence never counts for more than another, and no interview stage carries extra weight. The rating is a proportion and is never weighted into a score, and no percentage is shown until at least five eligible outcomes have been reported.

A company appearing in the directory does not mean anyone has reported being ghosted by it. Directory records may exist before any outcomes are reported.

You may have one account and must use an email address you control. Reports only count toward ratings after your email is verified. You must be at least 18 to create an account. You are responsible for activity through your account. Tell us if you believe someone else has accessed it.

Only report applications you made yourself, and make each report accurate to the best of your knowledge. Do not submit the same application twice, report applications made by someone else, create false reports or coordinate with others to influence a rating.

An application cannot be reported as Ghosted until 21 days have passed without a response after the last relevant contact with the company. Relevant contact resets that waiting period.

If the company later responds, update the outcome so the public record stays accurate. Correcting your own record removes that ghosting from the company’s rating, and you can do it at any time.

Your job link, application dates, private notes and identity are never displayed publicly. Two things you submit do reach a public page:

• Your reported outcome, counted inside the aggregate for the company you applied to.
• The role title you entered, listed on that company’s page with how many reports of that title ended in silence. It appears without a date, without a contributor and without anything else from your application, and identical titles are folded into a single line.

We may also use the job link and other application information privately to associate an application with the correct company, prevent duplicates, moderate reports and maintain the accuracy of the service.

You give GhostedBy a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use information you submit only as needed to operate, secure, moderate and provide GhostedBy, including publishing eligible outcomes and role titles as part of company-level aggregates. The Privacy Notice explains how personal data is collected, used, retained and deleted.

You must not:

• Submit false, duplicate or coordinated reports.
• Circumvent checks designed to protect the integrity of ratings.
• Scrape or extract the directory in bulk without permission.
• Republish GhostedBy data as your own.
• Use automated access in a way that disrupts or burdens the service.
• Use GhostedBy to harass, threaten or target a company or individual.

We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect users, the service or the integrity of the public record.

A Ghosted Rating is based on both responses and silences. Applications still waiting are excluded, so taking your time to reply never counts against you.

The fastest way to change a rating is to reply to candidates. The second is to tell us what is wrong with it, by writing to hello@ghostedby.xyz with the company name and the issue being raised.

We may investigate the underlying reports and remove or correct outcomes that do not meet the Moderation Policy. We will not remove an eligible outcome simply because a company disagrees with the resulting rating, and we will not disclose information that identifies individual contributors.

GhostedBy does not accept payment to change, hide, delay or remove a rating.

We may remove or exclude reports that breach these Terms or the Moderation Policy, and where we do, they stop counting toward the company’s rating. We may temporarily restrict a company record while investigating suspected errors or manipulation.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms, misuse the service or threaten the integrity of the record. Where appropriate, we will explain the reason.

You can close your account from Settings. Your account and private application data are deleted or retained only as described in the Privacy Notice.

An outcome that has been irreversibly anonymised, so that it can no longer be linked to you, may remain within a company’s aggregate statistics after your account is closed. A rating records what was reported rather than who still holds an account.

The core GhostedBy service is currently provided without charge. We may offer optional paid features, with any price and additional terms shown before purchase.

GhostedBy is provided as available, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Ratings are based on outcomes people choose to report, so they are samples rather than complete records of every application made to a company. Nothing on GhostedBy is legal, employment or professional advice. Decisions made using the service remain yours.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

To the extent permitted by law, GhostedBy is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost earnings, lost opportunity or loss arising from decisions made in reliance on a rating. If you are a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights are not affected.

We may update these Terms. The date at the top of this page tells you when the current set took effect.

If a change materially affects account users, we may require you to accept the updated Terms before continuing to use account features. If you do not accept them, you may close your account.

If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms removes rights or protections you have under applicable law, including any right to bring a claim before a court available to you under that law. Before starting formal proceedings, you can contact hello@ghostedby.xyz so we have an opportunity to resolve the issue.
